One of the biggest things I hear before a session is, “I don't know how to pose in front of a camera" or "I don't take pictures often". The truth is, almost everyone feels that way at some point, and it is completely okay to not know what you are doing. Being in front of a camera lens can feel intimidating at first, but your session is meant to be a time where you can relax, have fun, and simply be yourself.

Some people think posing is awkward or that they need to have an entire Pinterest board prepared before their session, but that is part of my job as your photographer. You do not have to worry about knowing exactly what to do. All you have to do is show up, relax and trust the process.

Throughout your session, I will guide you through poses and movements that feel natural and flatter you specifically, instead of trying to recreate what looks good on someone else. Nothing should ever feel forced or stiff. Your photos should reflect your personality and capture you in a way that feels natural and genuine.

One of the easiest ways to feel more comfortable in front of the camera is by wearing something that feels like you. When you feel confident in your outfit, it naturally shows through in your photos. Choosing clothes that fit well, match your style and make you feel good can make a huge difference during your session.

It is also important to remember that your session does not have to be perfect. Some of the best images come from laughing between poses, fixing your hair, or simply acting natural. Those genuine moments often end up becoming the photos people love the most because they reflect real emotion and personality.

At the end of the day, my job is not just to take your photos, but to help you feel relaxed and confident throughout this entire experience. With Shots by Ash, you never have to worry about being “awkward” in front of the camera. You just have to show up as yourself.
